Rescue organizations train the way they operate: repeatedly, in weather, with equipment pushed to its limits. When a regional rescue service set out to replace an aging mixed fleet, their instructors defined the program in one sentence — *the boats must survive the drills, not just the missions*.
What the spec demanded
Working from instructor debriefs across a season of drills, three priorities rose above everything else:
- Quick plane. Training scenarios launch and re-launch constantly. The hull had to reach plane fast at low power so crews could repeat capsizing, recovery and tow exercises all day without fuel logistics becoming the bottleneck.
- Self-draining deck. Every drill floods the boat. A deep-V aluminum hull with a self-draining deck clears water while moving, so crews never pause a scenario to bail.
- Reinforced collar. Capsizing drills and alongside transfers punish tubes. The spec called for extra chafe protection along the rubbing strake and heavier fabric than a leisure build would carry.
The configuration we built
We matched two platforms to the duty: the rib-alloy-430 as the primary training hull for open-water drills, and the compact rib-alloy-360 for confined-harbor instructor work. Both run welded marine-aluminum hulls, heavy-duty PVC collars with reinforced strake sections, and console layouts mirrored between lengths so crews switch boats without relearning controls.
Every unit passed our standard release gates — 24-hour pressure hold at 0.35 bar per chamber, the 120-point assembly checklist, and third-party witness inspection before shipment.
Running it as a program
Because drills destroy gear deliberately, the fleet was ordered with a standing spares kit: valves, patch material, strake sections and a documented repair procedure sized to the training calendar. Serial-number traceability links every chamber to its pressure record, so any drift between boats shows up in maintenance instead of mid-exercise.
The result is a fleet where the limiting factor in a training day is the crew's schedule — not the boat's endurance.
