Which RIB CAD Files Should a Factory Share?
A buyer-focused guide to planning-level drawings, project screening and controlled engineering-file access for RIB and inflatable boat programs.
A factory should normally make low-risk planning information easy to review: model identity, revision, principal dimensions, GA layout, equipment positions, transport or packing data and clear use limitations. Editable DXF/DWG/STEP files, structural drawings, tube patterns, mould data, detailed interfaces, BOMs and calculations may contain manufacturing IP or project-confidential information, so access should follow buyer identity, project stage and NDA or engineering approval.

These files help a buyer decide whether to proceed without exposing the information needed to reproduce the boat.
General Arrangement PDF
Top, side and plan views showing the principal layout, model identity, revision, units and planning limitations.
Dimension summary
Overall length, beam, tube diameter, weight range and key clearances, subject to the confirmed configuration.
Deck and equipment layout
Planning positions for console, seating, engine, tank, lifting or towing points and agreed equipment options.
Transport and packing data
Packed dimensions, estimated weight, crate or carton approach and information useful for freight, storage and site planning.

Files that should be reviewed as part of a real project
The goal is not to block serious buyers; it is to release the right level of information without exposing another customer’s design or the factory’s core manufacturing IP.
Editable 2D CAD
DXF or DWG layouts can support engineering coordination, but should carry revision, copyright, intended-use and non-construction notices.
3D exterior models
STEP, IGES or other 3D files may be appropriate for a verified project, showroom, marina or integration workflow after scope review.
Installation interfaces
Equipment, electrical, fuel, steering and mounting interfaces should match the final configuration and should not be assumed from a generic platform.
Manufacturing engineering
Structural drawings, tube patterns, mould files, tooling paths, laminate schedules, BOMs and calculations require NDA and project or engineering approval.

Give the factory enough context to release the right drawing
A concise project brief protects both the buyer’s workflow and the manufacturer’s IP.

Name the model or planning target
State the platform, approximate length, hull construction, intended use and whether you are comparing existing boats or developing a new configuration.

Explain the engineering use
Tell the factory whether the drawing is for a marina, garage, trailer, container, equipment integration, tender fit, tender document, showroom or another defined task.

Identify the buyer and market
Provide company, role, country or target market and project stage. This helps separate early planning from a live engineering integration or procurement project.

Request an NDA when needed
Use an NDA before sharing proprietary artwork, competitor references, detailed specifications or files that could reveal your product strategy.

Agree revision, permitted use, watermark or copyright notice, file expiry or replacement process and whether the file is for planning only or approved engineering coordination.

Questions about RIB GA and CAD files
Can I get a GA drawing before submitting an RFQ?+
Planning-level product information can support early selection. The exact drawing, revision and configuration should be confirmed with the factory before it is used for procurement, construction or certification.
Why are some CAD files not publicly downloadable?+
Editable files and detailed engineering data can expose manufacturing IP, customer-specific design or safety-critical interfaces. Controlled release protects both parties while still supporting legitimate project work.
Can I use a website drawing as a production drawing?+
No. Public or preliminary GA material should state its revision and limitations. Final dimensions, equipment, weights and compliance status must come from the confirmed order specification and applicable project documents.
What should a good GA title block contain?+
At minimum: manufacturer or brand, model, drawing name and number, revision, date, units, scale where relevant, status and a clear statement such as “Not for construction, certification, replication or tooling” when appropriate.
