Do I need every specification before contacting the factory?+

No. A target range is enough for an initial feasibility review. State what is confirmed, what is preferred and what you want the factory to recommend.

A reference can clarify size, layout or market position, but distinguish observation from a request to copy. Share only material you are permitted to use and request an NDA for confidential information.

The market can affect intended use, documentation, labeling, language, inspection, importer responsibility and the applicable compliance discussion.

Request a sample when the candidate platform and key configuration are sufficiently defined to make approval meaningful. The approved sample should then be linked to the controlled specification and artwork before production.
